As has been the case for the last two and a half years, the United States will continue to remain the leader among countries in terms of support for Ukraine.
The United States of America has obligations to Ukraine regardless of who leads the country. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced this on Friday, July 19, at the Aspen Forum in Colorado.
“These obligations will be fulfilled through one mechanism or another – either as direct aid or as an agreement with NATO – regardless of the composition of the administration of the new American president,” he assured.
He emphasized that in both houses of the US Congress there is a “strong bipartisan majority that supports Ukraine. Therefore, any future US president should consider not only the external geopolitical, but also the internal political situation.”
“Of course, each administration has the opportunity to set its own rules. But just a week ago at the NATO summit, more than 20 countries announced that they had negotiated and signed 10-year bilateral security agreements in Ukraine,” Blinken said.
The Secretary of State emphasized that these are long-term commitments to Ukraine.
Blinken added that Ukraine is increasingly aligned with the West, and that Russia has already lost the war.
“Vladimir Putin has failed. He has failed to achieve the goal he set, that is, to erase Ukraine from the map, to cease its existence as an independent state, to capture it. It will not and cannot succeed,” Blinken said.
“Russia has also lost its energy market in Europe. It is forced to face NATO, which was, is, and is becoming stronger and bigger. Three years ago, no one could have thought that Finland and Sweden will become members of NATO. But Putin, with his actions, “only accelerated what he was trying to prevent,” said the US Secretary of State.
In his opinion, all of the above should be understood by the US leadership, regardless of personalities and preferences.
“Any administration must ask itself: if we stop or reverse course, if we turn our backs on Ukraine, what will Putin do that Aggression will be reversed and, perhaps, the aggressor will have a chance to succeed where he is not yet? Obviously, it will not stop in Ukraine, it will go to other countries, including NATO allies, “the Secretary of State.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with the newly appointed British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy and discussed further support for Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressor.
