The corresponding petition No. 22/230584-ep, authored by People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko, was published on the electronic petitions page on the website of the President of Ukraine.
The text of the petition states that the changes envisaged by Bill No. 4201 pose significant problems and inconveniences primarily for citizens:
- now, according to the “new time”, dawn in the summer will come at about three o’clock in the morning (now at four in the morning), this will be especially noticeable in the east of the country. And it will get dark accordingly at about 8 p.m.;
- such a decision will not be beneficial in terms of energy savings, especially given the lost capacity and constant attacks on the energy system from Russia. Since electricity costs for consumers and businesses will now increase in the evening hours in spring, summer and autumn;
- After “winter time” Ukraine will have a two-hour difference with Europe, which will significantly affect the effectiveness of cooperation with partners.
Consequently, the relevant bill is absolutely unfinished and harmful for the entire country, the author of the petitions notes and calls on Volodymyr Zelensky to veto bill No. 4201 on timekeeping.
The petition was published on July 18. So far, it has collected 1,282 votes, with 25,000 needed for consideration. The petition has 91 days left to collect votes.
