The head of the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, Sergei Bolvinov, spoke about another crime committed by Russians during the occupation of Izyum.
Russian military personnel were particularly cruel in their abuse of people, and many such stories could have simply been lost. That is why investigators are now working in Izyumshchina in whole groups – they are receiving information about the atrocities committed by Russian military personnel and investigating these cases.
One such case is the story of Olesya from Izyum. Her fate was revealed thanks to the testimony of her aunt. The woman was stopped at a so-called checkpoint in the middle of the city. Three Russian soldiers took her straight into the forest. After that, her relatives were shown only a photo of the dead body.
Olesya’s body was found on the side of the road, not far from the same forest. The Russians told her friends and relatives that she had accidentally been hit by a tank. The occupiers even tried to imitate some kind of investigation. But we have not found any evidence to support the version of accidental death under military equipment. But there are several others. More than a dozen witnesses have already been questioned.
According to the information we have, we suspect that the woman was first raped in the forest, and then the Russian military simply killed her. There is a witness, a neighbor, who heard the sounds of beating that very night not far from the place where Olesya was later found. According to him, the sound was similar to a body hitting metal, and the Russian military even tried to stop one of their own with the words: “What are you doing, you’re going to kill me now,” then they all went somewhere in the middle of the night in a “Tiger.” By the morning, the “people’s militia” had already come to this man with a photo of the dead woman. They found out if he had seen anything, and then said that the woman had been accidentally hit by a tank.
All this happened at the end of August 2022, shortly before the deoccupation. But 41-year-old Olesya did not live to see Izyum fired. We found her at the site of a mass grave left behind by the Russians, in grave number 440, Bolvinov wrote.
