Berlin remains the largest supplier of aid to Kyiv in the EU, said Deputy Head of the Federal Government Christine Hoffmann.

The German government in the draft budget for 2025 has actually included less – four billion euros for military aid to Ukraine, in the hope that Kyiv’s needs for military materials will be covered primarily by fixed assets of Russia. This was confirmed by Deputy Federal Government Spokesperson Christine Goffmann in a briefing on Friday, July 19.

The official called it “a sign of long-term aid to Ukraine” – Germany remains Kyiv’s biggest aid supplier in the EU.

He emphasized that the decisive factor is that Ukraine should receive $50 billion. in accordance with the decision made in June by the G7 countries to use the proceeds from Russia’s fixed assets. These funds will be used for military aid, but will also go towards reconstruction.

Goffmann did not “think” about what would happen if it was not possible to collect money from the assets of the Russian Central Bank.

A representative of the German Ministry of Finance called the decision to send actual Russian money to support Ukraine “the main difference compared to previous years.”

Let’s remember that on July 8, Germany announced an aid package to Ukraine. Its main highlight is the Patriot air defense system with spare parts and missiles.
