The technologies fraudulently obtained by the Russian and his associates have important military applications.
In the United States, Russian citizen Maxim Marchenko was sentenced to three years in prison for facilitating the smuggling of American dual-use electronics into the Russian Federation. This was reported by the press service of the US Department of Justice.
Marchenko was involved in an illegal procurement network that, following Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, purchased large quantities of dual-use OLED microdisplays for end consumers in the Russian Federation.
The convict lives in Hong Kong, where, together with two accomplices, he runs several local shell companies.
In February 2024, Marchenko pleaded guilty to money laundering and smuggling microelectronics from the United States. The Russian admitted that he conspired to smuggle the technology into the Russian Federation through a network of front companies.
The fraudulent technologies Marchenko and his accomplices obtained have important military applications, such as rifle scopes, night vision goggles, thermal imagers and other weapons systems.
We remind you that Russian citizen Andrei Sova, manager of Atrade company, was arrested in Japan. The case is related to the illegal export to Russia of watercraft and other items that can be used for military purposes.
