In an interview with Bloomberg, Trump said that war was never a threat during his presidency:
Putin and I got along very well, we had a good relationship. He would never interfere in Ukraine. I told him: “Never, never interfere in Ukraine,” the former US president noted.
In his opinion, the current security situation in the world “could end in World War III.” Trump blames his rival, incumbent President Joe Biden:
I had no war. No war, except ISIS. I finished them in a very short period of time, although they told me it would take 5 years. Russia did not seize any territory, – Trump added.
In a conversation with journalists, the former US President mostly talked about the economy, criticized Joe Biden, but indirectly mentioned Russia’s war against Ukraine, the lifting of sanctions against Russia, as well as relations with Putin and the situation around Taiwan.
The most interesting from the interview:
On whether he thought about lifting sanctions against Russia to end the war in Ukraine:
Yes. What we do with sanctions, we push everyone away from us. I don’t like sanctions.
On the “marriage” of Russia and China and their cooperation with Iran and the DPRK:
The problem is that in three and a half years, China has teamed up with Russia, Iran, and North Korea. And North Korea has a lot of nuclear weapons… Because Biden is stupid. He got Russia and China to marry. They married, then they took in their little cousin, Iran, and then North Korea. They don’t need anyone else.
On whether Taiwan will defend itself against China:
They (the Taiwanese) took about 100% of our chip business. I think Taiwan should pay us for defense. You know, we are no different from an insurance company. Taiwan gives us nothing. Taiwan is 9,500 miles from the United States and 68 miles from China.”
On the threat of a third world war:
It’s a very, very dangerous world. I’m really worried about the five months we have left (before the new president takes office). Yes, I think you could end up in World War III. This guy (Biden) is so incompetent, and his people are fascists, they don’t even know what they’re doing. So remember: I didn’t have a war, I didn’t have peace, I didn’t have a problem. We didn’t have a war. No war except ISIS.
With all these other presidents, they (the autocratic regimes) just feasted on the world stage. With me, no one feasted on the world stage. Iran was broke. We wouldn’t have had a war in Israel. Iran had no money. They had $300 million. I think they had less than $300 million (In fact, according to the IMF, Iran’s foreign exchange reserves were $13.7 billion in 2020 – ed.)
The problem is Biden did nothing about it. I put a stop to it. He did nothing. But we would have had an agreement. So they were broke. They had no money for Hamas. And they had no money for Hezbollah.
Journalists noted that, while criticizing the current White House administration, Trump cited erroneous figures on economic issues not only in a conversation about Iran, but also on many domestic issues.
The former president resorted to similar manipulations during the debates with Joe Biden – then The New York Times journalists counted that Trump lied at least 26 times.
