Szijjártó said he was “working for peace,” unlike other European politicians who support Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó on Tuesday, July 16, in New York. Among other things, they discussed the war in Ukraine.
The ministers met on the sidelines of a high-level political forum on sustainable development.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov emphasized that bilateral cooperation between the Russian Federation and Hungary, despite the “very difficult international situation,” continues to “gradually develop.”
Szijjártó and Lavrov confirmed “the importance of implementing key common economic projects, including landmark areas of energy cooperation.”
Among other things, the parties “exchanged views” on current international issues, in particular, “the situation around Ukraine.”
In a Facebook post, Szijjarto wrote that no country can be credited with supporting “open diplomatic channels and peace negotiations.”
“Because of the peace mission, all the politicians found Hungary pro-war, but at least we have to open up And we will continue to work for peace and use the system of UN institutions for what it is intended for: negotiations,” said the head of Hungarian diplomacy.
We remind you that Hungary became the only EU country that did not sign a joint statement of fifty states condemning the Russian Federation at the UN Security Council.
