Donald Trump announced that he had chosen Senator J.D. Vance, a supporter of American isolationism and an opponent of aid to Ukraine, as his running mate in the presidential election, that is, as his vice-presidential candidate.
As Reuters recalls, before the 2016 elections, J.D. Vance harshly criticized Donald Trump, even calling him an idiot, but after a couple of years he became one of his most loyal fans.
According to people close to Vence, the Ohio senator has changed his mind about Trump, deciding that the changes he is bringing are good for the country.
According to Reuters, Vance is close to Trump in his views on foreign, domestic and economic policy: he is an isolationist and economic populist.
Vance is part of a group of Republicans in Congress that held up American aid to Ukraine for six months. He and his colleagues believe that the United States should focus primarily on strengthening the southern border and combating illegal immigration, as well as confronting China.
Vance believes that military assistance to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression is inappropriate for America.
