The Pentagon explained the ban on US weapons striking deep into the terrorist federation by concerns that the war would spread beyond Ukraine.

I think it’s important to understand that we don’t want to see unintended consequences, an escalation that could turn this conflict into a broader conflict that goes beyond Ukraine. I think that’s something that we all need to take into account and take very seriously,” Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder told Voice of America journalist Ostap Yarish.

In May, the United States gave Ukraine permission to use American weapons on Russian border guards to counterattack and defend against Russian advances, particularly in the Kharkiv region. However, that permission did not extend to the use of long-range ATACMS missiles, which the United States is also transferring to Ukraine.
