The incident took place on Sunday evening in the village of Maryanovka, 15 kilometers from Ukraine’s border with Moldova.
In the Odessa region, four men attacked a border patrol. One of the attackers is dead. The representative of the State Border Service of Ukraine (SBSU) Andrey Demchenko said this in a comment to Ukrainskaya Pravda on Monday, July 15.
According to him, yesterday evening in the village of Maryanovka (15 kilometers from the border with Moldova – ed.), the border guards stopped a car in which there was a driver and four other people. Two of them start running in different directions, and eventually one of the two attacks a soldier while searching for him. The border guard used a weapon.
It is said that warning shots were fired, and then in the direction of the attacker. Emergency doctors recorded the death of the offender, as well as the fact of injuries to the body of the serviceman.
“The information that began to circulate in some sources that a border guard fired with a pistol in pursuit of the fugitive does not correspond to the truth. The State Bureau of Investigation, other law enforcement agencies and prosecutors’ offices was notified of this fact ,” said Demchenko.
In turn, the publication, citing sources in law enforcement agencies, claims that the fugitives are four military deserters.
It was previously reported that in Bukovina a border guard killed an attacker with a machete. Another attacker was wounded.
