Associated Press reporters reported counting more than 40 bodies at the overcrowded Nasser Hospital nearby.
Israel launched a massive attack on Gaza during the operation to remove one of the leaders of Hamas, Mohammed Deif. At least 90 people, including children, were killed, according to local health officials. This was reported by The Associated Press.
Gaza’s health ministry reported 90 dead and at least 300 wounded. According to Palestinian doctors, the victims were under the rubble and on the roads, and the ambulance team could not reach them. The publication said this strike was one of the deadliest of the entire war.
Journalists counted more than 40 bodies at the overcrowded Nasser Hospital nearby. Witnesses described the attack as involving multiple punches.
The Israeli military claimed that “terrorists were hiding among civilians” and described the scene as surrounded by trees and some buildings. They also said it was not a tent city, but an operational complex and called the strike precise.
At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there was “still no absolute certainty” that Deif and another Hamas leader, Rafa Salama, had been killed.
Unseen in public for years, Deif has long topped Israel’s most wanted list and is believed to have escaped several assassination attempts in Israel.
“The death of Deif will bring a great victory to Israel, but it will be a painful psychological blow to Hamas,” the publication said.
