European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and top EU diplomat Josep Borrell responded to the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump.

In particular, von der Leyen said on X (Twitter) that he was “extremely shocked” by the shooting that took place during a campaign rally with Trump’s participation.

“I wish Donald Trump a speedy recovery and expressing my condolences to the family of the innocent victim has no place in a democracy,” he stressed.

In this regard, Borrell strongly condemned the attack on Trump.

“Once again we are witnessing unacceptable acts of violence against political figures,” he added.
