The heads of the US and Russian defense departments held talks following the NATO summit in Washington.
Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin held his second phone conversation in a month with Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov. This is what US Department of Defense spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said in a briefing on Friday, July 12.

“Secretary Austin emphasized the need to maintain lines of communication in light of the ongoing war waged by Russia against Ukraine,” Singh said.
We remind you that on June 25, Austin had his first telephone conversation with Belousov. The head of the Pentagon noted that it is important for the military departments of Russia and the United States to maintain communication.
The last conversation between representatives of the US and the Russian Department of Defense took place in March 2023 – then Austin talked to Sergei Shoigu.
