Ukraine is a potential recipient of a promising, relatively inexpensive, air-launched precision munition called the Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM). The US Air Force has made such a statement, Aviation Week reports.
This type of missile will give Ukrainian aircraft new capabilities to hit targets beyond the range of many of the weapons currently in their arsenal, including Western-made precision bombs such as the AASM.
Representatives of the American defense industry believe that in two years it will be possible to manufacture 1 thousand units of such ammunition. And the ERAM navigation system must work in conditions of deterioration of the GPS signal, which is extremely important in the conditions of the active development of Russian electronic warfare systems.
The media also revealed the characteristics of ERAM:
- Weight: 220 kg;
- Range: more than 400 km;
- Maximum speed: less than M=0.6;
- Warhead: high-explosive fragmentation (probably);
- Accuracy: within 10m.
Let us recall that France, Germany, Italy and Poland have agreed to jointly develop land-based missiles that will be able to hit targets at a distance of up to 500 km. This is necessary to fill the gap in European military warehouses that was discovered after the start of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
