France, Germany, Italy and Poland want to create new long-range cruise missiles. The heads of the defense ministries of these countries signed a corresponding letter of intent on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, Reuters reported.
These countries want to develop land-based missiles that can hit targets at a distance of up to 500 km. This is necessary to fill the gap in European military stockpiles that was discovered after the start of a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine.
Further details about the plans of these four countries are not yet available.
As is well known, the current European stockpiles of cruise missiles include the long-range British Storm Shadow, French Scalp and German Taurus.
Recall that the new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made it clear that the Ukrainian Defense Forces could use Storm Shadow missiles to hit military targets on Russian territory.
