The press service of the SBU and the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported this today, July 11.
It is noted that the enemy was interested in:
- First of all, the junction stations and railway routes by which the Defence Forces transport heavy weapons and ammunition to the front;
- geolocations of medical institutions where Ukrainian soldiers are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation.
Acting under the “cover” of a courier for a popular delivery service, the agent rode around the area on his own scooter, where he recorded the objects he needed, the SBU notes. He was to send the information he received to his Russian handler via a personal chat in a messenger.
The offender was detained on one of the streets in Chernivtsi while sending another report to the “curator”.
According to the investigation:
- the aggressor’s henchman is a 49-year-old local resident, an ideological supporter of racism, who came to the attention of the occupiers through his acquaintance from Russia, who collaborated with the FSB;
- he sent the “customer” video files with the necessary coordinates of buildings in the security, defense, and healthcare sectors. He received a cash reward for the information on the cryptogamer;
- the traitor has repeatedly spread pro-Kremlin views in Russian video chats. Thus, “having fun” on a Russian website for random interlocutors, believing that he was talking to a Russian military man, he justified Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, convinced that the so-called “Russian world” awaits in Chernivtsi, is ready to hand over to the enemy not only the coordinates of strategic and military. and local residents with a pro-Ukrainian position.
During the search of the detainee’s premises, two mobile phones and a computer with evidence of criminal activity were seized. He was informed of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code:
- Part 2 of Article 111 (high treason committed under martial law);
- Part 1 of Article 436-2 (justification, recognition of the legality, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The offender is in custody, and a preventive measure has been chosen for him in the form of detention without the possibility of posting bail. The man faces life imprisonment.
