One of the spires of the Gothic cathedral caught fire. The French Ministry of Culture reported that the fire was caused by “inappropriate behavior” at the site of the restoration of the metal spire of the cathedral. It is known in advance that the scaffolding, mainly protective tarpaulins, caught fire. This was reported by the publication Le Figaro.
According to the city’s mayor, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, the origin of the fire is still unknown.
The top of the spire, made of metal rather than wood, caught fire. It has been under repair since early 2024. All state resources were mobilized to put out the fire.
As is known, Rouen Cathedral is one of the most outstanding architectural monuments of France. It was built in 1030 in the Gothic style. From 1876 to 1880, this cathedral was the tallest building in the world, with a height of 151 meters. During World War II, the cathedral was bombed, but then rebuilt.

Let us recall that in June, a large-scale fire broke out in Greece in the only pine forest on the island of Hydra. It turned out that the crew of the 55-meter yacht Persefoni lit fireworks on board to entertain passengers. Sparks from the fireworks caused the fire.
