Ellen DeGeneres announces permanent retirement

The former “Ellen DeGeneres Show” host announced her permanent retirement during her farewell tour, “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up,” which will stream on Netflix later this year.

On Monday, July 8, at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, California, DeGeneres was asked by an audience member if she would ever appear on Broadway or in films again. “No. This is the last time you’ll see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done,” she replied.

Another fan asked her to return as Dory in Disney/Pixar’s “Finding Nemo,” to which DeGeneres responded, “No, I will. Bye, bye. Remember.”

Comments on Twitter reacted to the announcement, with one, which has received almost 5,000 likes, stating: “She won’t be missed.” Another social media user wrote: “Hasn’t she disappeared from the public eye already? I promise no one was looking for her,” while someone else said: “Haven’t heard or seen her in two years so she’s on the right track.”
