The former president of Moldova has been accused of buying electricity at a high price, which he did as economy minister 14 years ago.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova has announced a new case against former president Igor Dodon in the case of illegal purchase of electricity – the so -called “Energocom case”. This was reported by European Truth in connection with the press service of the Moldovan Prosecutor General’s Office.
The lawsuits against Dodon are based on his actions in 2008-2009 during his tenure as Minister of Economy and Trade.
“He (Dodon) was accused of signing an order in May 2008, based on which, in May 2008, the CEO of Energocom concluded a contract with a Hungarian company for the purchase of electricity at an increasing price, which caused damage to the state in the amount of $ 11.9 million ”, the message said.
The former president of Moldova himself, on his Telegram channel, called the accusations politically motivated and said they could not be substantiated.
“Most likely, the prosecutors couldn’t find evidence on the other charges, so they decided to be more active in this case. But then, 14 years ago, we bought electricity cheaper than many states in the region. , ”Dodon said.
It will be recalled that on May 24, anti-corruption prosecutors, along with employees of the SIS and National Anticorruption Center, searched the house of Igor Dodon. On the same day, he and his brother -in -law were jailed for 72 hours. And two days later, Dodon was sent under house arrest for 30 days.
The searches are part of a case known as “Kulek.” Dodon is suspected under articles of passive corruption, receiving political party funding of a criminal organization, high treason and illicit enrichment.
