It is important for Slovakia to strengthen the air defense of NATO’s eastern wing, Pellegrini said.
Due to the transfer of air defense systems to Ukraine, they may not be sufficient for NATO countries. This was said by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, Aktuality.sk reports on Wednesday, July 10.
“A few more air defense units for Ukraine means that they will not be enough for NATO member countries and Slovakia will probably be left without effective airspace protection,” he said.
According to Pellegrini, it is very important for his country to strengthen the air defense of NATO’s eastern wing.
During the NATO summit in Washington, the Slovak President planned to give a presentation on the capabilities of the US and European defense industries to protect the eastern part of the Alliance with air defense.
Pellegrini also confirmed Slovakia’s participation in NATO’s plans to provide 40 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine each year.
Let’s remember that at the opening of the NATO summit, US President Joe Biden announced the “historic” transfer to Ukraine of five additional strategic air defense systems from the United States and partners.
President Vladimir Zelensky thanked the United States for the new Patriot systems, but noted that they are not enough.
