Strengthening Ukraine’s air capabilities will include full squadrons of F-16 fighters
F-16 fighters are on their way to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands. This is what US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a NATO public forum on Wednesday, July 10.
“I am happy to announce that the transfer of F-16s from Denmark and the Netherlands is underway in the skies over Ukraine this summer and will help Ukraine effectively defend itself against future Russian aggression,” he said.
Meanwhile, the White House released a joint statement by US President Joe Biden, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schof and Danish Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen on the supply of F-16s to Ukraine.
“The governments of Denmark and the Netherlands are in the process of transferring American-made F-16s to Ukraine with the support of the United States. The transfer of these F-16s is currently underway, and Ukraine will begin flying F -16 this summer,” the statement said.
More detailed information about the aircraft deliveries was not disclosed for security reasons.
The leaders of the United States, the Netherlands and Denmark thanked Belgium and Norway for pledging to transfer additional F-16s to Ukraine.
It has been argued that strengthening Ukraine’s air capabilities will include full-fledged F-16 squadrons. They usually consist of 12 aircraft.
It was previously known that Ukraine would keep some of the F-16s abroad so that they would not be the target of Russian attacks.
