The Ombudsman recalled that the state of Qatar was an intermediary in the matter of the return of Ukrainian children illegally taken by Russia.
736 children taken by the Russians since the beginning of the full-scale invasion have been returned to Ukraine. Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets announced this at a press conference on Tuesday, July 9, Ukrinform reports.
The Ombudsman recalled that the state of Qatar was an intermediary in the matter of the return of Ukrainian children illegally taken by Russia.
“After I gave the first lists to Qatar, about a month later we returned the first group of Ukrainian children. It was small, but it showed that Qatar could influence the position of the Russian Federation,” Lubinets emphasized.
The Ombudsman also said that preparations are underway for the return of the next groups of children, but he did not give specific dates for security reasons.
It was previously reported that at the beginning of a large-scale invasion, the aggressor country took 46 children from Kherson, where they are still unknown.
