Putin’s “peace initiative” implies the complete withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson.
The Kremlin’s so-called “peace proposals” are only aimed at legitimizing its illegal invasion of Ukraine, which violates all international norms. This was said on Friday, July 5, in a statement by the European Union, which was announced at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, Ukrinform reports.
“The Kremlin’s recent fraudulent ‘peace proposals’ are merely an attempt to legitimize Russia’s illegal and unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine and undermine peace efforts in accordance with the UN Charter, ignoring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the statement said.
The EU welcomed the results of the Peace Summit in Ukraine, which took place in Switzerland, and emphasized that Kyiv will determine the conditions for the start of negotiations.
“The EU and its Member States will strive for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law, including the principles of respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, in accordance with the fundamental principles and purpose of The Peace Formula for Ukraine is that Ukraine will determine the conditions for negotiations,” said the EU.
The European Union said that ensuring accountability for all crimes committed during Russia’s aggression “remains a top priority to achieve the just and lasting peace that Ukraine deserves.”
“There is no impunity for anyone guilty or complicit of crimes in Russia, even at the highest levels of power,” the statement said.
After a meeting with Orban, Putin proposed ending the “conflict” in Ukraine.
