The assistance of the alliance should be considered comprehensively, as there are clear agreements between its members on the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoane, in an interview with European Pravda, commented on the claims of the Ukrainian authorities about the inadequate assistance of the protection alliance against Russian aggression.
He noted that among the members of the alliance there is a clear “distribution of duties” in support of Ukraine.
“We in NATO have an agreement that the alliance as such provides Ukraine with significant, but not just lethal assistance, and the member states provide lethal weapons. Ultimately, what is more important to you: the distribution of duties between the alliance and its members, or the result, That is, the assistance provided to Ukraine? Therefore, I advise my friends in Kyiv to look at the situation comprehensively and see our help on the whole, ”Joane said.
According to him, support for Western democracies includes weapons, cybersecurity, disinformation outs, maintaining economic stability and the rebuilding of Ukraine after the war.
“Ukrainians can count on and our assistance, including the transition to weapons models in the West,” NATO’s Deputy Secretary General assured.
Joane said the allies deliberately shared the duties so that the “Ramstein Format” meetings in Ukraine were not coordinated by the alliance, but by the United States.
“When we agreed on such a distribution of tasks – the alliance works in a non -lethal way, and the allies provide military support to Ukraine – this decision was deliberate. Because NATO is an organization in which the risks are tied. With all due respect to Ukraine, but our number one task is the protection of a billion people living in NATO space … We must avoid escalation, the war between Russia and NATO will not benefit anyone, ”he said.
The NATO deputy secretary general added that the bloc’s non-lethal assistance to Ukraine includes fuel, chemical, biological and nuclear defenses, cyberspace support, the fight against disinformation, and Ukrainian military training.
Joane believes that the Ukrainian authorities ’criticism of the alliance is baseless.
“What is more important for you – to get what you need from us, or more importantly, who among us is doing what? I think the main thing is to get quick and effective support in the war of Ukraine against in Russia, ”he summed up.
Recall that at the NATO summit in Madrid, a decision will be made to provide immediate assistance to Ukraine, as well as a long-term program for the rearmament of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be considered.
