As journalists reported the day before, the head of the Hungarian government plans to arrive in Moscow on July 5.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban does not have a mandate from the European Union to travel to the aggressor country Russia on behalf of the EU. The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, wrote about this on Thursday, July 4, on the social network X.
He recalled that Hungary chairs the Council of the EU on a rotational basis since the beginning of July, but stressed that Budapest does not have a mandate to engage with Russia on behalf of the European Union.
“The European Council has a clear position: Russia is the aggressor, Ukraine is the victim. No discussions about Ukraine can take place without Ukraine,” Michel said in a statement.
Orban will visit Moscow and meet with the head of the Russian regime, Vladimir Putin.
Let’s recall that on July 2, Viktor Orban visited Kyiv for the first time since the beginning of a full-scale war and met with President Vladimir Zelensky. He suggested that the Ukrainian side cease fire and then start peace talks with Russia. This proposal did not find a response in Kyiv.
