There is growing concern within the Democratic Party and among its liberal supporters in the media about the health and mental abilities of the 81-year-old president.

Representatives of the US Democratic Party may sign a letter to President Joe Biden demanding that he step down from the presidency, Bloomberg reported, citing an unnamed official.

The letter is being promoted by Democrats running for re-election in traditionally safe Democratic districts, a source said, indicating panic in the party about Biden’s candidacy.

The first is to go

Democratic Representative Lloyd Doggett was the first to publicly call on Biden to withdraw his candidacy for the presidency because he failed to “effectively defend his record” in a debate with his opponent, Donald Trump. Doggett said Biden must make the painful and difficult decision to withdraw his candidacy. At the same time, the congressman emphasized that his statement does not diminish the respect for everything the president has done, and also noted that Biden’s main commitment has always been to serve the country, not himself.

Doggett, who represents Austin, Texas, is 77 years old, was first sworn in in 1995, and is running again for Congress.

He said there was too much at stake to allow Biden to lose to Trump because of concerns about his deteriorating health.

At the same time, Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that the US Democratic National Committee is considering the possibility of officially appointing Joe Biden in mid-July to ensure his presence in the November elections.

In this way, Democrats also plan to end internal party talks about replacing Biden after his poor performance in last week’s debate.

just tired?

Biden himself told reporters that taking several long-haul flights before the debate with Donald Trump was not a very smart move on his part, which is why his performance was not so impressive.

“I didn’t listen to my crew, I circled the Earth a few times, and then I almost fell asleep on stage,” he said Tuesday night at a private fundraiser in Virginia, referring to his travels.

“This is not an excuse, but an explanation,” he added.

In the 23 days leading up to the debate, Biden maintained a high pace that exhausted even his younger aides: He crossed the Atlantic twice to meet with foreign leaders and then flew from Italy to California for a fundraising event, and returned to Washington the next day.

White House officials had previously said he had a cold on the day of the debate. Biden himself did not mention it.

In preparation for the debate with Trump, the head of state spent six days at Camp David, the presidential retreat 100 km from Washington.

The New York Times, citing an unnamed source familiar with Biden’s schedule, reported that on days he was preparing for debates, his workday began at 11:00 a.m. and that he is given time to sleep each day.

The newspaper also reported that he was so exhausted from the trip that he cut two days off from preparing for the debate to give him time to fully rest at his home in Delaware.

His press secretary, Andrew Bates, however, said that during his time at Camp David, the president began work well before 11:00 am, after a regular training session.

Staying in the race

On Wednesday, July 3, Biden said, in a pre-election phone conversation with Vice President Kamala Harris, that he would continue to participate in the presidential race, CBS News reports, citing sources familiar with the conversation

During the call, the president acknowledged the challenges he has faced in recent days, but made it clear that he intends to continue running and defeat former President Donald Trump in November.

“Let me say this as clearly as possible and as simply and directly as possible: I’m running. I’m the Democratic nominee. Nobody’s pushing me out. I’m not leaving,” one source quoted Biden as saying.
