Belarus has declared that it will use nuclear weapons if there is a threat to the country’s sovereignty and independence.
Chief of the General Staff of Belarus Pavel Muraveiko said that his army has learned how to use non-strategic nuclear weapons, which it received from Russia, and is ready to use them if necessary. Belta reported this on Sunday, June 30.
“One of the latest arguments and theses that act as a deterrent is the return of non-strategic nuclear weapons to the territory of our country. And you can be sure: we will do it, if the sovereignty and freedom of our country is threatened,” said Muraveiko.
At the same time, the head of the Belarusian General Staff accused Poland of allegedly preventing Belarus from joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and also called it a “bogeyman” that Russia threatens the Baltic countries and Poland.
Let’s remember that in March last year, Vladimir Putin said that he agreed with Lukashenko on the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. At the same time, the head of the Kremlin spoke about the transfer to the Belarusian military of the Iskander missile system, which can carry nuclear weapons.
And in April 2024, Lukashenko announced “dozens” of nuclear weapons in Belarus.
