The President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, met with the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Nariman Jelal, who was released from Russian captivity the previous day. The president announced this on Saturday, June 29, on social networks.
“Today I met with Nariman Jelal, who came home from captivity in Russia, the invaders captured him in 2021 in Crimea and kept him in captivity since then, Nariman sent letters, and in one of them he wrote: “We are not only fighting for the integrity of the territories, but also the unity of our society, our beautiful, strong country.” Important words that remind us that together, we can achieve even the most difficult and certain results that will restore security to all our people and peace in Ukraine,” the message said.
We remind you that Ukraine managed to return 10 civilians from captivity in Russia. Among them is the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars, Nariman Jelal, who was captured in 2021.
