The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmitry Lubinets, reported on Telegram that Ekaterina Bryukhanova, Lyudmila Goncharenko, Pavel Kuprienko, Nikolai Shvets and Natalya Zakharenko, who were held in Belarus, returned to their homeland.
The deputy head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Nariman Jelal, whom the occupiers had kept in captivity since 2021, was returned from Russian prisons. Valery Matyushenko has not seen his family since 2017. Elena Pekh’s daughter has been waiting at home since 2018.
Ukraine also returned the priests of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Bohdan Gelet and Ivan Levitsky. They resisted the occupying forces in Berdyansk.
The Ombudsman noted that his charges had already communicated with the former captives and recorded their physical and moral condition.
Citizens definitely need rehabilitation. And we, in turn, will take care that their rights are respected! – emphasized Lubinets.
Let us recall that on June 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that ten more Ukrainian civilians had been returned from Russian captivity.
