A magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred off the southern coast of Peru. Associated Press reports.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Pacific Ocean, about 8 kilometers from the Atikipa area, Karaveli province, at a depth of 28 kilometers.
According to local media, the earthquake was felt in the regions of Ayacucho, Ico and the country’s capital, Lima. The mayor of Sancos district in the Ayacucho region, Eder Calca, told a local radio station that there was a rock fall on one of the roads and several communities were isolated.
No deaths or injuries were reported as a result of the aftershocks.
