At least 2,000 Sri Lankan citizens are engaged in an all-out war against Ukraine on the side of Russia.
Sri Lanka is demanding compensation from Russia for the deaths of its citizen mercenaries during the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka.
The issue of compensation to the families of the dead and injured was raised in the negotiations in Moscow during the visit of the Sri Lankan delegation led by Foreign Minister Tharak Balasuriya.
Sri Lankan representatives met with Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko and Deputy Minister of Defense Alexander Fomin.
During the negotiations, they discussed the payment of compensation to the families of 17 killed and wounded in the war against Ukraine, the early termination of recruit contracts and the payment of compensation. There is no information about the number of injured.
