Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov ordered the Russian General Staff to “make proposals for an immediate response to provocations.”
US drones are conducting reconnaissance in the Black Sea, apparently in the interests of Ukraine, their flights have become more frequent, and this increases the risk of incidents in the air, which increases the risk of direct confrontation between of NATO and Russia. This statement was released by the Russian Ministry of Defense on Friday, June 28.
“The Ministry of Defense of Russia has noted an increase in the intensity of flights of US strategic unmanned aircraft over the Black Sea, carrying out reconnaissance and target designation of high-precision weapons supplied to armed forces of Ukraine by Western states, to strike Russian targets,” the statement said.
Moscow believes that “this indicates an increase in the involvement of the United States and NATO countries in the conflict in Ukraine.”
“Such flights again increase the possibility of airspace incidents with aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces, increasing the risk of direct confrontation between the Alliance and the Russian Federation,” the Russian military said.
Therefore, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov ordered the Russian General Staff to “make proposals for an immediate response to provocations.”
Let’s remember that on March 14, 2023, a Russian Su-27 aircraft shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone that was conducting reconnaissance in international airspace over the Black Sea.
Russia said it had nothing to do with the downing of the drone – the device “flew with irregularities” and fell due to a sudden maneuver. But the United States published a video from a drone, which recorded an attack by Russian Su-27s.
But three days later, an American strategic reconnaissance drone RQ-4 Global Hawk appeared in the Black Sea.
