That’s according to a CNN poll, but only 5 percent of voters said the debates had a major impact on their choice of president.
Before the debate, the same voters said they expected Trump to perform better than Biden (55% to 45%).
Nearly half (57%) of debate viewers said they were unsure of Biden’s ability to lead the country, while 44% felt the same about Trump.
Those numbers are virtually unchanged from a poll conducted before the debate, in which 55% of voters said they did not trust Biden and 47% said they did not trust Trump.
Among viewers who took part in the survey, there were 5% more fans of the Republican Party.
The CNN poll was conducted via text messages among 565 registered U.S. voters who watched the debate.
The poll results represent the views of those who watched the debates only. After the debates, the odds on Biden winning are going down the drain. Smarkets estimates the candidates’ chances as follows:
-
Donald Trump – 59%
-
Joe Biden – 21%
-
Gavin Newsom (California State Governor) – 9%
-
Michelle Obama – 3%
After the debate, Democrats in the United States began talking about a possible replacement for Joe Biden, The New York Times reported. Analysts say it was not his best debate because his voice sounded hoarse, he repeatedly blocked his words and sometimes got his answers mixed up. His team attributed this to a cold.
The issue is Biden’s unconvincing performance, in particular his regular slips of the tongue, weak voice, and inability to clearly present the party’s position on key issues.
The Washington Post and Reuters write that Trump’s speech was full of his usual exaggerations and “lies.”
