Russia seeks to create a coalition of friendly states with historically warm ties to the Soviet Union, including North Korea and Vietnam, to form the basis of an alternative world order. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said this in its daily report.
Analysts assessed South Korean television channel TV Chosun’s statement, which it made in relation to a local official, that North Korea would send military construction and engineering forces to take part in “reconstruction work ” in the occupied Donetsk region in July 2024. .
The TV channel calculated that North Korea could receive up to $115 million per year from Russia if it sent three or four engineering brigades (total of ten) to the occupied part of Ukraine.
At the same time, ISW has not yet seen any reports indicating that North Korean military personnel intend to participate in hostilities in Ukraine. However, analysts suggest that North Korea’s direct engineering support could aid Russia’s efforts to expand military infrastructure and defense fortifications in occupied Ukrainian territory.
