Manuela Schwesig is the first head of the Bundesrat to visit Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Prime Minister of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Manuela Schwesig, who heads the German Bundesrat, arrived in Kyiv on Monday, June 24, for negotiations with the political leadership of Ukraine, reports DW.
Manuela Schwesig is the first head of the Bundesrat to visit Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. He called this visit a sign of unity of all 16 federal states in Ukraine.
“Ukraine must win this war, Russia cannot be allowed to achieve its goal with the help of this aggression,” the German official stressed.
He said that during his visit to Kyiv he was opposing objections to further support for Ukraine that are sometimes spreading in his country, especially in eastern Germany. He considers one of his tasks as head of the federal states to be, in particular, to protect the course of the federal government from such feelings.
“Ukraine must be able to defend itself, with the help of Patriot systems,” Schwesig said in a conversation with reporters.
We remind you that Germany transferred a large package of military aid to Ukraine. It includes HIMARS rocket systems for the first time.
It was previously reported that Germany, along with other allies, will transfer 100 missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
