Vladimir Putin said in March that Russia “from a military-technical point of view is ready for a nuclear war.”
Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is unlikely to follow through on his nuclear threats because it would lead to greater political problems for him. This is what the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, said on Sunday, June 23, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer.
So, the head of Ukrainian intelligence answered a question from a journalist from the publication, who asked if Putin would strike with nuclear weapons if Crimea were lost.
“First, I know what is really going on there. Second, I know the true characteristics of Russian nuclear weapons. What good are they to our defense lines? It is possible to wage war using conventional means. In addition, the use of nuclear weapons would lead to great political risks for Putin,” he said.
The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate added that the occupied Crimea could be cut off from arms supplies from Russia and everything should be done to implement this.
Let’s remember that the previous Russian dictator Vladimir Putin threatened “tragic consequences” for countries that dared to send their military to Ukraine.
The EU commented on Putin’s statements, noting that nuclear threats are completely unacceptable and inappropriate. And the United States recalled that they had already warned Russia about the consequences of using nuclear weapons.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is also reported to have said that Russian nuclear dictator Vladimir Putin’s threats should not be taken too seriously.
