The head of the regional group of the Christian Social Union party in Germany, Alexander Dobrindt, suggests that unemployed Ukrainians return “to safe places in western Ukraine.” Germany’s Social Democratic Party and the Greens criticized the announcement. It was reported by the publishing house Zeit.
Dobrindt commented on his proposal in an interview with the German newspaper Bild.
“This principle must now be applied more than two years after the start of the war: work in Germany or return to safe places in western Ukraine,” the politician said.
He called for changes in government aid to refugees from Ukraine. A CSU politician criticized state aid for keeping so many people from Ukraine on social security.
Dobrindt’s initiative was criticized by the SPD and the Greens. They agree that Ukrainians need to work faster, but new legal obstacles, as the CDU wants, will not help, but harm. SPD parliamentary faction’s labor market expert Martin Rosemann noted that many Ukrainian refugees are single mothers.
