Ukrainian Ambassador Yevgeny Korniychuk said that Kyiv will be forced to take retaliatory measures, but is open to dialogue with Israel on this issue.
Israel is actually ending the visa-free regime with Ukraine, Korniychuk believes.
Ukraine and Israel have had close ties since the creation of the visa-free policy in 2010. However, recent Israeli actions, such as restricting entry for Ukrainian refugees and denying entry to many Ukrainians, have severed these relations. The latter requirement effectively ends the visa-free regime.
In response, Ukraine will introduce similar pre-approval requirements for Israeli citizens, including pilgrims. This mutual action will affect thousands of religious pilgrims who visit Ukraine every year,” said Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgeny Korniychuk.
From July 1, citizens of countries with visa-free access to Israel, including Ukraine, must apply for an ETA-IL permit for a stay of up to 90 days.
