In four months of the widespread war, Russia has committed 413 crimes against journalists and media in Ukraine. This is confirmed by monitoring data of the Institute of Mass Information.
On June 24, the Russian military killed 33 journalists, eight of whom were killed in the line of duty. Another 14 journalists were injured and at least 15 are missing (journalist Dmitry Khilyuk, who went missing in the Kiev region during the Russian occupation, and 14 journalists from Mariupol).
25 journalists died as participants in the battle: in the fourth month of a massive war, a Ternopil journalist and serviceman Vitaliy Derekh was killed; photographer, videographer from Mukachevo Roman Zhuk; military letter, author and presenter of the program Rekrut.UA, former director of Army FM, serviceman Alexei Chubashev.
Within four months, IMI recorded 21 cases of journalists being defamed. We are talking about both Ukrainian and foreign media representatives: Voxpot (Czech Republic), hromadske, TSN, AFP (France), Radio Liberty, Freedom, TSN, BBC (Great Britain), Public, ICTV, Present tense, TRT World (Turkey), CNN (USA), Houses, Prohibition, ERR (Estonia), Posttimees (Estonia), Welt (Germany), Bild (Germany).
In four months, 14 Ukrainian and foreign journalists were injured.
In addition, 58 cases of intimidation and harassment of journalists and media by the occupiers were recorded.
Since the start of Russia’s large -scale aggression, at least 214 broadcasters, online and print media (national, regional and local) have stopped their activities in whole or in part due to fighting and occupation.
Recall that recently German journalists were set on fire in Lisichansk. This time, none of the journalists were hurt.
