It is important that the partners know that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have everything they need to strengthen the front line and stop the Russian advance.
The NATO summit, which will take place in early July in Washington, will focus on strengthening Ukraine and its long-term success. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced this on Tuesday, June 18, at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“The summit will focus on strengthening Ukraine’s long-term success, which it has built from day one,” the head of the State Department said.
He noted that in recent weeks the United States and other partners have made efforts to strengthen support for Ukraine in repelling Russian aggression. According to Blinken, it is important that the partners know that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have everything they need to strengthen the front line and stop the Russian advance.
The head of the State Department also recalled the bilateral security agreement recently signed by Ukraine and the United States. He said the agreement was the 17th since President Joe Biden announced the initiative at the G7 summit a year ago.
“Before the NATO summit, we expect about twenty, and possibly more, countries to sign bilateral security agreements with Ukraine. This is clear evidence that all our partner countries support Ukraine for a long time,” Blinken said.
He also added that the United States is tightening the sanctions pressure on Russia to force it to stop its aggression.
“If Putin thinks that he can survive Ukraine or any of us, he is mistaken. Our help shows practical results, the country can repel Russian aggression. However, in the future, we want to make sure that Ukraine will succeed, that it stands firmly on its feet in economic, military and democratic aspects,” said the head of American diplomacy, adding that the NATO summit will contribute to the implementation of these efforts.
Earlier, Stoltenberg said there would be “no date” for Ukraine at the NATO summit.
