Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the attempted murder of a journalist, a citizen of Kazakhstan, in Kyiv. This was announced by the Office of the Prosecutor General (OGP) on Tuesday, June 18.
“According to preliminary information, an unknown man with a pistol ran up to the car where the victim and his wife were, shot the man, and then fled,” the report said.
It was indicated that the assassination attempt took place in the Shevchenko district of the capital, not far from the house where the spouses lived. The injured man and his wife, also a journalist, have been living in Ukraine since 2014. They have refugee status.
The injured man is now in hospital and is in serious condition. Law enforcement officials are taking steps to determine the identity of the attacker.

Earlier on Tuesday it became known about the shooting in Kyiv on Viktor Yarmola Street. Later, media reported that journalist Aidos Sadykov, known for his criticism of Kazakh President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev, was wounded.
In the fall of 2023, Aidos and Natalya Sadykov were placed on the wanted list by the Kazakh authorities on charges of “inciting social, national, tribal, class or religious hatred.”
