The head of the Hungarian government, Viktor Orban, did not even repeat his demand for an apology from his Dutch counterpart.

Hungary has changed its mind about opposing the candidacy of current Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the position of the next Secretary General of NATO. This was reported by the Dutch media – NOS and RTL, citing their sources.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban never repeated his demand for an apology from Rutte for criticizing his Hungarian government, the media noted. This is despite the fact that the apology was one of the two conditions put forward by Budapest for Rutte’s confirmation as Jens Stoltenberg’s successor as NATO secretary general.

The second demand is to ensure that Hungary has the right to refuse NATO plans to help Ukraine. This was done last week by Stoltenberg.

NATO’s top states, led by the United States, are pushing to reach an agreement on a new Secretary General of the Alliance before the summit in Washington next month.

NATO makes such a decision by consensus, so any candidate for the post of the head of the Alliance needs the support of all 32 member countries.
