The basis for the new tank will be Leopard 1; they plan to install a modern Skyranger anti-aircraft system on its hull, which will be able to shoot down air targets at short distances. This will allow Frankenstein to shoot down not only missiles and drones, but also artillery shells. This was reported by The Telegraph with reference to a statement from gunsmiths.
There are many more Leopard 1 main battle tanks on the chassis of which we could install a Skyranger turret with a 35 mm automatic cannon, noted Bjorn Bernhard, head of the ground systems department at Rheinmetall.
Engineers are confident that this will provide increased ammunition capacity of up to 35 mm cannon and missiles, better off-road capability and the ability to overcome difficult off-road conditions near the front line.
As you know, Skyranger 35 is a modern mobile anti-aircraft artillery system designed to protect troops and strategic targets from air threats: drones, helicopters and cruise missiles.
Let us recall that on June 11, Minister of Strategic Industries Alexander Kamyshin announced that the first joint production site of Ukroboronprom and Rheinmetall was operational in Ukraine. This is a workshop for the repair and production of armored vehicles, but in the future new models of armored vehicles will be produced here.
