This stadium was built in anticipation of Euro 2012 and was the training base of the Netherlands national team 12 years ago.
The Solnechny stadium was built in 2011 specifically for Euro 2012; at different times, Helios, Metalist 1925, Metal, Volchansk and the women’s Zhilstroy-2 played there.
On May 20, 2022, the Russian army shelled the stadium, resulting in the destruction of the stands. Rockets also hit the football field.
The installation was opened today by UAF President and Ukrainian football star Andriy Shevchenko.
One team on the field – because there are a million at the front! “I want to thank our guys for the fact that we can stand here,” this is how the head of the UAF Andrei Shevchenko addressed the fans of the Ukrainian national team in Munich before the opening match with Romania.
