The Russian dictator’s visit to Vietnam comes after Hanoi avoided attending the Peace Summit in Switzerland.
The head of the Russian regime, Vladimir Putin, will visit North Korea on June 18-19 and Vietnam on June 19-20. The Kremlin announced this on Monday, June 17.
Putin will reportedly come to North Korea on a “friendly state visit” at the invitation of Kim Jong-un.
“During Putin’s visit to Vietnam, it is planned to discuss the development of cooperation between Moscow and Hanoi, issues on the international and regional agenda,” the statement said.
Also, based on the results of Putin’s talks in Vietnam, it is planned to adopt a joint statement and sign a number of bilateral documents.
In this regard, Reuters said that the Russian dictator’s visit to Vietnam will take place after Hanoi avoided participating in the Peace Summit in Switzerland and sent its deputy foreign minister to the BRICS meeting in Russia early last week.
According to the agency, the United States, which improved relations with Hanoi last year and is Vietnam’s main trading partner, has been harsh during Putin’s trip.
“No country should give Putin a platform to promote his war of aggression or otherwise allow him to normalize his atrocities,” a spokesman for the US Embassy in Hanoi said when asked about the impact of the visit on relations in the United States.
It is known that Vladimir Putin once visited North Korea – in 2000, when the leader of this country was Kim Jong Il. And the current leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, last came to Russia in September 2023.
The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in 2023 because of the war in Ukraine. North Korea and Vietnam do not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC.
