Switzerland considers it possible for Putin to attend further peace conferences in Ukraine.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may attend potential conferences and peace talks in Ukraine organized by Switzerland. This is what Swiss President Viola Amerd said at a press conference following the outcome of the Peace Summit on Sunday, June 16, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
When asked by journalists about the possible presence of Putin in Switzerland, due to the warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for his arrest for further negotiations and possibly a peace conference in Ukraine, Amerd said that it is possible.
“Yes, if the presence of a statesman is necessary for the conference, then an exception can be made And in the case of peace negotiations in Ukraine with Russia, it will be only a case government,” he said.
For his part, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis also mentioned that it can be fixed.
“This is possible in accordance with our laws, of course, we must do it together with the ICC, but as a host state, we can make an exception to this,” said the Foreign Minister.
Let’s remember that in March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in connection with his involvement in crimes committed during the war in Ukraine.
On June 15-16, the historic Global Peace Summit, organized by Ukraine, took place in Switzerland. Zelensky said the peace summit could have practical steps towards peace.
According to him, after the first Peace Summit, it will be months, not years, before the next summit is held. There will be Russian representatives there. Several countries have already expressed their interest in hosting it.
