Saudi Arabia’s participation in the Peace Summit was only known the night before. The media reported that the country had no plans to participate in the summit, allegedly due to the fact that Russia was not there.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Saturday, June 15, during the Peace Summit meeting, said that his country uses “good relations with both sides” in finding a path to peace and will further support efforts to organize dialogue. between Ukraine and Russia.
At the same time, he noted that the path to peace in Ukraine will require the mandatory participation of Russia and “difficult compromises” within the framework of the peace road map.
“We believe it is important that the international community encourages any move toward serious negotiations that require difficult compromises as part of a road map to peace,” he said.
As part of the Summit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, where they discussed bilateral relations between the countries and the humanitarian aid provided to Ukraine.
“We agreed to continue to closely cooperate on the path to a just world based on the UN Charter and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the head of Ukrainian diplomacy wrote to X.
Let’s recall that on June 14, Putin said that he seemed ready for “peaceful negotiations” with Ukraine. But to do this, the Ukrainians must withdraw their troops from four regions, which in Russia are called new regions. Ukraine should also abandon the prospect of NATO membership.
In turn, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky compared Putin’s proposal to Hitler’s Nazism.
