Italy is the only G7 country to sign a global infrastructure deal aimed at expanding China’s influence.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloney plans to visit China in the coming weeks. The visit is taking place against the backdrop of deteriorating economic relations between the two countries. Bloomberg reported this on Saturday, June 15.
Maloney withdrew from Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative last year.
Italy was once the only G7 country to sign a global infrastructure deal aimed at expanding China’s influence. Maloney reversed his predecessor’s move, sparking outrage from the US and its allies.
The country now wants to start “a new phase in the relationship between Italy and China and invest in bilateral partnerships.”
“The move could be a political win for Maloney if he manages to maintain trade relations with China that are important to the business community, and also fulfills a promise to his Brothers of Italy party, which wants to leave the Roma in the BRI,” the agency reported by Bloomberg.
China is building Peru (South America) – the deep-sea port of Chancay, it may open at the end of the year.
What will lead to the new trade war between the US and China?
