Swiss President Viola Amherd said that “it is difficult to imagine a process without Russia” and “a long-term solution must include both sides.”
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also called for building a process involving all participants.
And the head of the Saudi Foreign Ministry said that any reliable peace process requires the participation of Russia.
We take a balanced position and always try to resolve conflicts peacefully and through dialogue. Any credible process also requires Russian participation, he added in comments to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also expressed a cautious position before the summit. In a comment to ZDF television, he called it a “diplomatic seedling.”
The purpose of the summit is to lay the foundations for the next one. And then this (ending the war – ed.) will depend on the presence of Russia. That’s why it’s a diplomatic seedling that we’re now watering to make it grow bigger,” Scholz said.
According to NZZ, the second Global Peace Summit could take place in Saudi Arabia, with negotiations already ongoing.
The action plan agreed upon at the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland will be communicated to Russian representatives so that a real end to the war can be recorded at the second peace summit.
This statement was made by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
Answering a question from a Radio Liberty journalist, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva said that the current summit is “in order to begin the process of peace. That’s why it’s called the inaugural summit. That’s why it’s called the initial summit. At this summit we have brought together those countries that are ready to speak substantively and act so that peace can be established.”
Our goal at this summit is not to solve all problems. We concentrated on these three positions because these positions today unite the majority of the world community. The task of the world community will be to deprive Russia of instruments of aggression in all spheres. Russia’s aggression continues not only on the battlefield. This is energy security, food security, and environmental safety. Therefore, this is the global task of this summit,” added Igor Zhovkva.
The Peace Summit communiqué will be open, there will be no direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia
