The United States has accused the Russian Federation of trying to use the UN Security Council to divert the attention of the international community from the Peace Summit in Switzerland. This is what the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN Robert Wood said at a meeting of the Security Council.

“It is not surprising that Russia called a meeting today before the arrival of dozens of countries in Switzerland for the Peace Summit. Today’s meeting is a clear attempt by the Russian Federation to divert the world’s attention and blame anyone for what is happening . in Ukraine, but not himself,” said the diplomat.

He added that Russia is trying to strengthen ties with countries that openly ignore international law and the UN Charter. In particular, North Korea transferred dozens of ballistic missiles and more than 11 thousand containers of ammunition to Moscow. Russia has also deepened its military ties with Iran by buying drones and seeking to acquire ballistic missiles there.

According to Wood, China plays a significant role in supporting the Russian Federation – “by providing a large amount of mechanical equipment, microelectronics, optics, as well as equipment for UAVs and cruise missiles . These materials fill critical gaps in Russia’s defense production cycle.”

The diplomat called on all countries to stop military cooperation with Russia and noted the importance of the participation of the international community in the future Peace Summit in Ukraine, which will be hosted by Switzerland.

China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Gen Shuang, responded to these accusations by saying that the United States was spreading lies that the Chinese side was supporting the war. The Chinese diplomat insisted that Beijing has not provided lethal weapons to any of the warring parties and has always strictly controlled dual use.

The Peace Summit will take place on June 15-16 in Switzerland.

Let’s recall that China confirmed that it will not participate in the Peace Summit, as its requests for the participation of the Russian Federation are not considered.
